Shot writer Ann Wertz Garvin in the glowing afternoon sun a short time back. Just found out she's using a couple of the shots for the back flap photo of her first book called On Maggie's Watch published by Penguin Berkley.

I'm honored.

Hellen Reddy's "I Am Woman" when Kathryn Bigelow won best director. Really? What would they have played had Lee Daniels won? Shaft? Or "I'm black and I'm Black and I'm black y'all"?

You've got to hand it to James Cameron. Takes a few years off. Goes off on the 3D vision quest. Makes a love story about 9 foot tall blue people running around a planet called Pandora of all things, with the back drop of war over indigenous people's land, natural resources and their subsequent insurgency and he's on pace break his own record for highest grosser of all time. All of that, from a Canadian truck driver. not bad.

things are going very very well. VAN MAN, the single cam comedy i exec produced and directed is moving forward. Emmy award winning Seth Macfarlane of The Family Guy has given his nod. It's starting to make the rounds at the top agencies in L.A. you know how these things go, and i try to not to get too far ahead of the wave, but that so many folks are responding well is good. as the german's say let's not count our pollos before the burst from their juevos... but an chicken sandwich would be tasty. especially prepared by the lovely folks at Be-wiched deli, minnapolis. toasted please.
Also, finishing shooting the Genapple branded web series this weekend. -https://www.genapple.com/

Found our leading lady. She's great. Really unique presence, and fantastic actor, and those eyes. Amazingly expressive.

Just shot a pilot presentation with Magnetic out of Minneapolis. Good fun. Great footage.

L.A. bound
by: Matt Boatright-Simon
Had a very very good few days in Minneapolis. Good, productive meetings with commercial houses, and ad folks. Location scouting for PushPull. All great. Stopped by the Guthrie Theater which is a world-class work of art that does it's job, which is to inspire and house some great theater(word has it). There's also a writers/writing building on Washington Ave which has a lot of soul in it. Classes on screenwriting, book binding, short story writing, This place seems to be the best of both worlds in that there is a small town tempo and accessibility that doesn't feel as big as the kind of work done here. There seem to be 4 seasons that aren't unbearable, and so, I'm starting to fall in love with Minneapolis.
Now back to L.A. for a little work on PushPull and tying up VanMan. Should be coming back here pretty soon.

Minneapolis
by: Matt Boatright-Simon
In Minneapolis for a little fact finding mission. I like this city a lot as well. Scouting for PUSHPULL, taking some meeting at different production companies. Special city this is. Top 5 in fortune 500 companies. High quality of life. Relatively low cost of living. Lots of lakes. Very interesting theater scene. High saturation of production companies.
We'll shoot at least one ep of PushPull here. Very cool.

A Great Article
by: Matt Boatright-Simon
Toby Tabachnick of the Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle wrote a nice article about me, Brad Davis and Nick Bartel. My partners in crime in getting Dealing, PUSHPULL and others to the light of day. A very nice article from a charming and talented lady. And I'm not just saying this because of her kind words. Check out the link here...

Pittsburghing it
by: Matt Boatright-SImon
Just returned from Pittsburgh, via a long day layover in very hot Chitown. Was in OHare and thought that I couldn't be this close to all of my Chicago folks and not say hello. Called up Kornfeld, a friend from L.A. now living in Chicago, and brought it hard, in the heat and humidity of the windy city. Lalapalooza and all of the other festivities happening as I walked, cabbed and biked around L.A. Was a nice way to decompress from a formidable time in Pittsburgh.
Met a lot of nice folks. Snapped a boat load of photos for DEALING project, in and around town. Really soaked up that amazing city. So many things that I remembered from my time there years ago, have changed. It's really interesting coming to that city, without my Dad showing me around his Pittsburgh.
A lot of really good work done. BSPS, my production company got some good work accomplished. Had some interacting with BCF. We'll see how that all works out. I'm optimistic about it all.
Heading to Minneapolis to suss out some work stuff. More on that soon.

Titletown bound
by: boatrighting
Trying out the new blog on MattSimon.com.

I'm getting ready to head to Pittsburgh for the DEALING Bridge City Films night at the Pirates Game. Going to location scout for both DEALING and PUSHPULL.

Will be leaving on the final day of shooting EP 7 for Van Man, and then we'll get that out into the world. A very exciting summer.

As if my last trip back wasn't good enough. I was there in the midst of the Stanley Cup chase, and had the pleasure of spending a perfect Pittsburgh night on the banks of the Monongehela with a huge puck win. A perfect night in the 'burgh is when one of their beloved franchises win a big game. Let's hope for a hat trick the night I'm there, though the game, ostensibly, isn't as big a deal.
